Commissions
Do you have a place that’s special to you or a great vacation photo that would make a unique, one-of-a-kind painting? I am currently accepting commissions, and I’d love to work with you on a painting of your very own!
Here’s how it works:
First, we discuss your idea for the subject and the details of the project. We’ll exchange photos that we think would make a great painting. If your special place is within driving distance, I’d like to see it in person to make sketches, take notes and shoot my own photos. If it’s not, I can usually work from your photos. Please note that I don’t include people, animals, structures, vehicles or any human-made elements in my paintings — it’s okay if these are in the photos, I can edit them out in the artwork.
We’ll also discuss the size of the canvas that will work best for you, as well as pricing — price depends on size and shipping/delivery. We work out all the details together ahead of time so there are no surprises along the way.
I work collaboratively with my commissioners, so this is your chance to be part of the creative process! The steps of the project include:
- Initial discussion and photo selection
- Sketches/studies
- Commissioner review (image sent by email), changes if needed, sketch approval
- Final oil painting (at whatever size you choose)
- Commissioner review (image sent by email), changes if needed, final painting approval
- Shipping/delivery
Total time to complete your painting is about 4-6 weeks. Also, I don’t make prints of commissions, that image will be yours and yours alone forever (but I do get to show it in my portfolio). Before beginning work, I require a 50% deposit of the total agreed-upon project price.
