Description

This is an original oil painting of a view from the 40th St. Trailhead in Phoenix, AZ, which is only about a mile and a half from my home. I started the painting en plein air on December 29, 2017 and finished it in the studio on January 29, 2018. It was a beautiful afternoon (unlike the freezing temperatures across most of the U.S. that day), and I wanted to focus on capturing the overall light patterns, the contrast between sunlight and shadow, and also push the colors beyond what I was seeing.
